Words beginning with s

I have a 9 year old daughter who struggles to say words beginning with 'S'. It takes about 30 seconds to get the word out then she leaves the 'S' off.

For example if she tries to say song she will say a continuous 'S' sound (ssssssssssssss) for about 30 seconds, then she will say "ong". Can someone tell me why?
