Who to tell?

My son is 14 and plays football and lacrosse he does not talk much to his teammates and coaches because i think he is afraid he will stutter and they will make fun of him. when he does talk he does not try hard to make his voice hearable causing some coaches to tell me he needs to speek up when talking to them.I guess i should tell his coaches but not sure about his peers.
