Speech Therapist Degree

Why would a speech therapist tell a 94 yr. old patient not to talk with anyone on the phone, but she can talk with people in person?

The patient did not have a stroke, nor a tracheotomy, nor Parkinsons. She did however have a recent bout with pneumonia.
