Hi,
I have a 2 years olds son. I and my husband are Turkish and we moved to UK about 1.5 years ago, when he was 6 months old.
I did not teach my son any English and did not hear him talking in English except few words. He is going to playgroups 4 times a day and spending time outside with other kids about 2-3 hours a day. Besides these hours, he is at home with me and my nanny and we speak only Turkish to him. He is talking now in Turkish. It is not very well developed but he is building simple sentences with 3 words now and telling short stories like "dad went work. come evening and play"
I decided to send him to a nursery so that he learns English. Because the good schools in London have assessment procedure at the age of 3, which is a year from now. I want him to go through these assessments. Therefor, I want him to learn English and will put him in a nursery.
My concern is, I do not want his mother language to regress. Do you think, it is not the best time to introduce a new language as he recently started talking and may cause some confusion. In this case, I will reassess my decision to send him to a nursery until next September.
Thank you very much
