Articulation problems with new student

Starting a new school year, I have a 3-year old student with severe articulation problems. She likes to chat, but I have trouble understanding her. How many times should I ask her to repeat herself and what if I still cannot understand her? I hope over time, I will learn to understand what she is trying to say. Also, due to Covid-19, we are all wearing masks.
