Articulating short e

I am tutor for kids with dyslexia. One of my students has a very hard time producing the short /e/ as in echo. Sometimes she gets it right, others times it sounds like short /a/ or short /i/. This happens both in isolation and within words. Any tips on how I can help her?

I have a four year old who pronounces his eh sounds as ah, I would also like to know how to fix this
