Activities to Teach Memory/Recall Skills for Low Functioning Clients

Hi! I am a CF and working in a nursing home with low functioning pts.

Majority of the nursing home residents speak Spanish which makes it extremely difficult for me to communicate with them.

I am working with a few pts on cognitive training i.e safety, orientation etc.

However, I am at a standstill now and do not know how to continue. If anyone has any suggestions and tips I would greatly appreciate them!!

You can also use the problem solving picture cards, sequencing cards that show common everyday tasks that require problem solving and safety.

Generate a couple of statements/questions and translate them and there you have it.

Google Translate

Two step process:

1 - Take your most often used compensatory safety strategies and break the procedures down into simple sentences.

Input these into google translate. It will give you a fairly accurate translation along with correct Latin alphabet and phonemic spelling of the sentences as well as allow you to listen to the correct pronunciation.

2 - Run these steps by a native Spanish speaker...if your population is predominately Spanish speaking, odds are a few members of the staff are as well.

BOOM!
