The Preschool Language Scale-Fifth Edition (PLS-5) is designed to identify children who have a language disorder or delay. It is composed of 2 subscales:
(1) Auditory Comprehension: which evaluates how much language the child understands. The tasks for preschool-age children assess understanding of basic vocabulary, concepts, and grammatical markers. (2) Expressive Communication: which determines how well a child communicates by producing language. The child is asked to name common objects, use words to describe objects and express quantity, and use specific prepositions, grammatical markers, and sentence structures.
